Mirai Chatterjee has dedicated her life to recognizing and supporting self-employed women in India. Since 1984, Mrs. Chatterjee has been working with the Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) that provides its members with insurance, legal aid, health care, child care, education, and microfinance.
The aim of the organization is to tackle the social inequalities that are the root cause of poor health and low life expectancy. Mrs. Chatterjee is SEWA's Director for Social Security, responsible for healthcare, childcare, and insurance programs. She received a BA in History and Science from Harvard and a Masters in Hygiene and Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
