Founder, Swaja Labs, Indihood
Dr. Lalitesh Katragadda is a pioneer in crowdsourcing and building products for the underserved. As Google's Country Head of India Products, he co-founded Google India and worked on Google Finance, Hindi Transliteration, and Map programs. Mr. Katragadda wants to ensure that barriers such as language do not prevent new users from getting online.
His creation, Google Map Maker, tripled the world's digital maps corpus, mapping 2 billion people in 187 countries. The United Nations and various aid agencies have used these user-generated maps to assist and rescue millions. Mr. Katragadda is now focused on India's nation building and has founded Swaja Labs, Indihood, and works as an architect of Digital India's Open API and AP Government's Fiber Grid.
I have been coming to Development Dialogue mainly to learn, more than anything else. There is a hope that when we build these information systems for the next billion, we might pilot them in the Sandbox so that we can figure out what it takes to build systems that the mainstream of the country, people who are barely literate, can use
